Fujifilm XE-1 Hands On Review

dsc_0052.jpg
It is often said that the best camera is the one you have with you and the Fuji XE-1's compact design makes for an easy to carry system. Today's Compact System Cameras now offer a viable more versatile alternative to big heavy DSLRs with performance to match.
And the Fujifilm X-E1 is no exception. extremely well built by today's standards the Magnesium Alloy construction, classic styling and ergonomic design makes the Fujifilm X-E1 a real shooters camera buttons and dials are placed for easy access and switching between settings for shutter speed, Iso and aperture are a doddle.
The X-E1 is built as well and is as sharp as the legendary LEICA M9 but costs only a fraction by of the price.
Featuring an Electronic Viewfinder rather than the optical view finder found on the X-Pro1 the fujifilm XE-1 shares many of the same features of its more expensive cousin including the same 16 Megapixel APS-C X-trans CMOS sensor which is considered by many to be one of the best in the business.
The electric viewfinder on the fujifilm XE-1 has an ace up its sleeve in the Focus Peaking feature which was available to both Xe-1 and XPro-1 Users in a firmware update, when using manual mode this allows the user to see what elements of the frame are sharp by highlighting in focus areas as you manually focus the lens This is an especially useful feature if like me you want to save a little money on lenses by using old manual focusing third party lenses such as Canon's FD range where good quality fast primes such as the 24mm f/2.8 will set you back around £60 or 70-210mm f/4.0 for around £80

Of course you will need an adapter but these are readily available. Canon FD lenses also have the added bonus of having an aperture adjustment on the lens itself and I can testify that all manual features on the fujifilm X-E1 work perfectly with FD lenses including Focus Peaking
The manual focusing lenses may take a bit of work to get used to particularly if shooting action but overall your photography will improve because you will have to think more.
